COLLINS
Newly acquired, is this pair of Collins 12-S broadcast turntables.  The decks aren't in bad shape, but that doesn't mean repairs aren't needed.  The power switches are broken, the AC cords are rotted, one of the pilot lights failed and the ball bearning from both wells is missing.  Pictured below are some before and after pictures.  One platter has been polished and felted.

Platter And Well
The first picture shows the underneath side of the platter, shaft and ball bearing.  The second picture shows the top side where the platter shaft is inserted and the third picture shows the underneath side of the well and height adjustment.  With a hex wrench, the screw is adjusted for platter height.  This is not rocket science.  Adjust the platter so all is clear and turns freely.  Inside the bottom of the well is another ball bearing.  The two bearings ride one on the other for minimum friction.  Many times, this bearing is lost.  Replace it with a 5/16" ball bearing.   To keep the bearing with the screw at all times, preventing loss, Gorilla glue it to the cup in the top of the screw.  This bearing does not turn.   Using acetone, completely clean the shaft and well to remove old lubricants.  Lubricate well with new oil.

Librication
Clean and libricate ALL friction and bearing locations.  Old lubricants become sticky, causing a sluggish mechanisms.  Be sure to add a few drops of oil to both oil cups in the motor as well.  Prevent any lubricants from making contact with the idler wheel and inner platter rim.
